ROCKBEARD THE FALLEN GIANT
Rockbeard was a skilled builder and stonemason who had made a pact with the Gods: in eighteen months he would have erected a mighty wall and a great gate capable of defending Asgard from the giants, their enemies; in exchange he would receive Freyja, the Sun and the Moon as a gift. The gods, on Loki's advice, accepted, but on condition that the wall was finished by the summer. However, when summer was only three days away, it was now clear that the builder would be able to finish his work in time, also thanks to the help of Svaðilfœri, his mighty horse. The gods decided that something had to be done if they didn't want to lose Freyja. They wondered who had pushed to accept the deal, and when they remembered it was Loki they forced him to make up for it. He turned into a filly, seduced Svaðilfari by being chased for a day and a night, thus interrupting the work. He repeated the trick for all three nights and three following days. When it became apparent that the wall was not going to be completed in time, the builder was seized by a bestial rage, revealing that he was in fact a giant of the JOTUNN race himself. Thor (Þórr), who is the greatest enemy of the giants, drove one of the nails into his skull that would hinge the mighty gate to Asgard with a blow from Mjöllnir, his hammer. Rockbeard fell lifeless and his petrified body became part of the same wall he was building, merging into the surrounding environment for centuries to come.
Biography of the character
Rockbeard's appearance was meant to embody the pride and might of the Jotunn breed. His face shows the evident signs of aging, suggesting that he is a very ancient being, considered middle-aged even among his peers. Being a Jotunn he is a humanoid-looking giant of ice and rock. The rocky growths on his face form a sort of beard from which he takes his nickname. Nobody knows his real name in the Jotunn language, which is unpronounceable to most living beings. The blood running through his veins is pure cold and even a single drop could freeze a normal human being. The character was sculpted using digital sculpting software to achieve a high degree of detail to the skin and rock textures. The master was then printed with a high definition resin 3D printer, 25 microns each layer. Rockbeard will represent the first release of DGS, the best way to start this collection and we will also find it in the second, lifeless at the feet of THOR.
